Dr. Kovalishin has more than 10 year working experience in the fields of economics and finance. His major areas of professional interests lie in macroeconomics and corporate finance.
Dr. Kovalishin started his career in Moscow-based investment bank MFK (later acquired by Rosbank, which now becomes part of SocGen Group) as a research analyst responsible for monitoring money-market and FX to support clients’ trading activity. In late 1997, together with his colleagues from Research Department of the bank he joined the Institute for Financial Studies (IFS). During his first years in the Institute, Dr. Kovalishin was responsible for monitoring and research of Russian financial markets, banking system, and analysis of macroeconomic situation including forecasting.
After being promoted to Senior Analyst, Dr. Kovalishin supervised weekly analytical reports produced by IFS covering Russian and foreign financial markets. He also took part in a number of special macro-research projects for IFS Clients.
Dr. Kovalishin has published a large number of papers in leading Russian scientific journals, including Economics and Mathematical Methods, Problems of Economics, etc. He also published a number of papers on options theory and fixed income derivatives, including tests of various stochastic processes for interest rates dynamics.
Today Dr. Kovalishin is the key executive within IFS responsible for investment consulting activities of the Institute.
His educational background includes PhD degree in economics from Moscow State University (in addition to BSc and MSc in Economics from the same university), with theses written on public debt management. His majors at the University were mathematical economics and finance; knowledge in both spheres has been actively applied and further developed during his career. He also completed studies at several foreign universities, including the University of Maryland (USA) and the Harvard Business School (USA).
Dr. Kovalishin is a CFA charterholder, a member of the CFA Institute and the UK Society of Investment Professionals (UKSIP). He also holds Series 1.0 Certificate from the Federal Financial Markets Service.
